Soy vs Paraffin CandlesWhy Soy Candles?Have you ever wondered why, when you are burning your standard paraffin candle, there is black soot that covers the rim of the jar and sides? That soot and additional particles are traveling in the air throughout your home, leaving their mark on bedding, furniture and walls. You and your family are also breathing this into your lungs when this candle is burning. Paraffin wax candles are known to release 11 toxins into the air while burning. There is a safer, all natural alternative... Soy candles are made from safe, naturally grown and non-toxic soybeans. Paraffin wax candles come from petroleum, thus the toxins. Soy candles help to support the American Soybean Farmers and deliver a safer and cleaner candle to burn throughout your home without the dangerous pollutants. If you suffer from either allergies or asthma, burning a paraffin candle can cause and onset of symptoms, while soy is much safer. Many people with allergies have traditionally avoided candles in their homes all together... But most of these people will find that soy candles are far less likely to cause their allergies to become aggravated. Why Soy Candles?
Soy Candle "Memory" and Proper Burning The first time you burn your new soy candle, it will start to pool melted wax across the top of the candle. The candle seems to have a distinct memory of how far it pooled the first time, and will only pool in the same diameter subsequent burnings. If a soy wax candle is not allowed to pool properly and large enough, you can end up with the “tunnel” effect where you are left with a ton of wasted wax on the sides of the candle container. So the first time you light your soy candle, plan to burn it for an adequate amount of time to create a better experience for subsequent burning. Since soy has a much lower burning point, it makes sense that it should and does burn slower than paraffin wax. In fact, we’ve read studies that suggest soy candles burn up to 30 to 50% longer than their paraffin wax cousins. |
